What exactly is a ministry, anyway?
min·is·try (min'i-stre)
n. pl. min·is·tries
a. The act of serving; ministration.
min·is·ter (min'i-ster)
1. a person acting as the agent or instrument of another.
The very definition of ministry resonates with the Great Commision of Jesus Christ, as well as the definition of minister. As a minister, we are acting as the agent, or instrument of God in proclaiming the gospel message to the world, and living by the example of Christ.
The Bible portrays the church as a body with every part essential and valuable. There are different functions within the body of Christ, but not higher and lower status. We are all called to the "work of ministry" (Eph. 4:12). The Christian is saved to serve.
